South Nyack is proud to be among the founding members, along with five other Rockland municipalities, of a collaborative municipal clean energy program called Rockland Community Power. This program brings 100% renewable energy for electricity to our community at guaranteed, low rates, while also strengthening consumer protection. A low cost 100% clean energy rate is available within the program.

What is Rockland Community Power?
Rockland Community Power is a Community Choice Aggregation program, a buying group through which Orangetown residents and small businesses can purchase electricity at low, guaranteed rates. New York State promotes Community Choice Aggregation programs in order to lower costs, foster the growth of clean energy, and strengthen consumer protection.
Rockland Community Power includes six communities: Clarkstown, Orangetown, and the villages of Haverstraw, Nyack, South Nyack, and Upper Nyack.
Why is South Nyack participating in the Rockland Community Power program?
Along with five other municipalities, our community is leading the way to a greener energy future. New York State has set ambitious goals to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. The Rockland Community Power program helps us take one big step toward meeting those goals and reducing our carbon footprint as a community, while also keeping costs low.
The benefits of the Rockland community Power program include:
• Low, guaranteed rates for electricity
• Consumer protection from predatory suppliers
• A clean energy option available within the program at a guaranteed rate
• More choice for individual consumers
Why am I receiving a mailing about this program?
In the next few days, you may receive a mailing about this program from the town. If so, you most likely either moved recently into the community – or you were previously in a contract with a third-party supplier that expired or is no longer valid in NYS. The packet you receive from the town contains information about the program. If you do nothing, you will transition in 30 days to the town energy program. If you prefer to opt out, you can simply sign and date the reply card to indicate your choice and return it in the postage paid envelope or you can call the helpline during business hours at 845 859-9099 option 1. You can also find information or opt out at www.RocklandCommunityPower.com.
To get answers to your questions, you can attend any of our four virtual “office hours” to speak with the Community Coordinator. You can also reach the Community Coordinator at Peggy@JouleCommunityPower.com.
Can I opt out?
Yes, you can always opt out of the program easily at any time and with no fee. There is also no contract to sign in the basic electric supply portion of the program. If you do nothing, you will be automatically transferred to the default community renewable energy program, which will start in July.
Can I participate if I am not an O & R supply customer?
If you purchase your electricity supply from an alternative energy supplier and wish to participate in the CCA program, you will need to take a few simple steps if you wish to enroll. We recommend that you first check your supply contract or contact your supplier to determine whether you’ll be subject to an exit fee. If you would like to participate in the Rockland Community Power program, you will need to contact your current supplier to cancel your account – and then call the program hotline to enroll. See below.
Can I participate if I previously opted out or if I never received a packet?
Yes, you can always opt out or in at any time during the two-year life of the program. For more information, call the program helpline or email the Community Coordinator.
For more information or to enroll or opt out, call (845) 859-9099 option 1. You can also enroll or opt out on the website at www.RocklandCommunityPower.com.
