Dear Residents,
We need your help.
In September, we proudly opened our Franklin Street Park tennis court after a $78,000 renovation, part of a project designed to upgrade the amenities that we have in our park. Unfortunately, in the few weeks that it has been open, the tennis court has been repeatedly vandalized. On one occasion, the new door was forced open, breaking the lock. On another, the new net crank was sheared off, perhaps by people bouncing on the wire. In addition, the new tennis court surface is now defaced by bicycle tire skid marks.
At our October 8th Board of Trustees meeting, various options for countering the vandalism were considered. In the short term, access to the tennis court will be restricted to only a limited number of hours each day and will be locked at all other times. For the longer term, we are seeking a resource-efficient, cost-effective solution.
The tennis court is reserved exclusively for playing tennis or tennis-like sports. If you see any other type of activity taking place on the tennis court at any time, please immediately call Police Dispatch at 845-359-3700 (ask for a South Nyack police response).
We hope that, together, we can eventually restore full access to the tennis court.
