Once again our Department of Public Works needs to be commended for their diligent work during and after our recent snow storm. Roadways and sidewalks abutting public property were made clear for safe passage. We thank them.
Property owners have a responsibility too. If you live in an area with a sidewalk(s) abutting your property, the sidewalk(s) must be shoveled within 24 hours after the end of snowfall. It is important that all are safe when walking through our village. When physical conditions are such that the snow cannot be removed, the sidewalk could either be sprinkled with sand, ashes, salt, or other suitable material for public safety. Please note that there is a per day fine for not adhering to these safety measures.
Regarding our study of ways to restore and maintain the character, identity and integrity of South Nyack in an economically sustainable manner, our Feasibility consultant, VHB, spoke to the Village Board and residents on January 19. They gave an in-depth presentation of their findings to date and where they will proceed from here. If you were unable to attend this meeting, please take time to go on our website (southnyack.info) and watch the video. I am sure you will find it very informative.
Keep warm,
Bonnie Christian
