Mayor’s Update ~ 4/10/15

Many South Nyack residents enjoyed the Egg Hunt on March 28.  Our thanks go to Susan Pilla and her family for organizing this popular annual Village event since 2007!

Mark your calendars: Our Electronic Waste Collection Day is Saturday, April 25th at the DPW, 85 Brookside Avenue between the hours of 9 am and noon.

We are making progress on our renewed talks with the state on the location of the new Tappan Zee Bridge shared use bike/pedestrian path and potential parking options here in our village.  Members of the South Nyack Tappan Zee Bridge Task Force and I have held three very productive meetings with the new Thruway leadership and project representatives. While these positive discussions continue to move forward, the state has agreed to hold off on any public meetings regarding the Environmental Assessment.  With that process temporarily on hold we will keep working on finding a solution that protects our residents and works for all the parties involved.

On a sad note, three Village residents who made important contributions to our community died this week.  Kelsey Graham, Zoning Board of Appeals member since 1993 and former South Nyack Assessor;  Kenie Mittleman, Planning Board member from 1983 to 2008; and Rosie Daggett who was instrumental in helping Dr. Lloyd Hamilton start his Health Lifeline Medical Clinic for those without health insurance.  The Village is very fortunate to have been blessed over the years with the talents and services of these three wonderful people.

Have a wonderful weekend.
