This week Senator David Carlucci and I met and carefully reviewed many issues concerning the new bridge including the Shared Use Path and its impacts on South Nyack. I described the options that are being reviewed by the New NY Bridge Team and shared the frustration of both the Board and residents at the long delay in scheduling a public meeting to review these options.
We also discussed our plans to leverage the bridge project for economic development in South Nyack. Once the feasibility study is completed we will need New York State to participate in bringing our plan to fruition. Senator Carlucci agreed to support us in the Legislature.
A Parking Committee, chaired by our Police Chief, Brent Newbury has been established. Also serving are South Nyack residents Nancy Willen and Bruce Forrester. They are reviewing our current parking rules and developing recommendations to address other parking issues including those caused by street fairs in Nyack and those anticipated by the Shared Use Path terminus.
Last evening, the mayors of Nyack, Grandview, Piermont, and South Nyack got together for an informal meeting to discuss issues both common and unique to each of our villages. We plan to meet on a regular basis and we hope our open line of communication enhances our relationships with one another.
Good news! Our long awaited approval for FEMA funds to repair Gesner Park has been received. The restoration project will be starting in the next few weeks.
Once again, enjoy your weekend.
