Garbage Collection is on Tuesdays and Fridays
Recycling pick-ups are every Thursday
To keep our Village attractive and litter free, and to abide by the Village Code, please place containers at curbside no earlier than the night before the scheduled pick-up. Remove containers from place of pick-up within 8 hours after the contents have been removed.
Recyclable materials (grass, garden debris, newspapers, glass, tin cans, etc.) may not be mixed with regular household garbage. Garbage carters are subject to fines for collecting items that can be recycled.
The Village of South Nyack is responsible for disposal of house and garden debris commonly generated by Village residents. This does not include construction of demolition debris, trees or tree stumps. The property owner or contractor is responsible for the disposing of such material. Please note that the village truck is available for rental. Call the Village Hall for more information.
Household discards may be put at curbside on the regular garbage days of Tuesdays and Fridays. This includes refrigerators (with doors removed) and other “white goods.”
Metal items are to be kept separate from general garbage and will be picked-up by the D.P.W.
Loose wood, 2×4 stair treads, etc. should be cut in 4 ft. lengths, bundled and tied with heavy cord. Each bundle must weight less than 50 lbs. Protruding nails must be removed or hammered down.
Plaster and sheet rock may be put into small boxes, placed in garbage bags, sealed and placed at curbside. Any discarded rocks, bricks, black-top or concrete must be free of metal.
For disposal of leaves, grass clippings and other yard debris, place in bio-degradable bags and put at curbside for Tuesday or Friday AM pick-up. Be sure that the bags are free of sticks, rocks and garbage. Bio-Bags are available at the Village Hall.
Tree branches need to be cut into 6 to 9 ft. lengths with cut ends stacked in the same direction. Small brush to be chipped by the D.P.W. must be bundled in lengths easily handled by one person. Brush must be free from dirt, frocks and roots as these items can damage the chipper. Bundle with string or rope. No wires please.
