The Rockland County Police Chiefs and Sheriff are again hosting the Citizen Police Academy during the spring of 2010. I am extending an invitation to interested residents who may wish to attend this interesting program. Residents from both the Village of South Nyack and Grand View attended last year and found it to be a worthwhile experience. The course will begin on Wednesday, March 24 and run through June 9, from 7 pm to 10 pm. With the exception of the first class and the Graduation, class is held on Thursday evenings.
The Citizen Police Academy is a ten-week program where citizens from Rockland County are nominated to attend a three-hour class one night a week. Nominations are submitted by county law enforcement agencies. Classes are taught by police personnel from various departments addressing subjects such as basic law, patrol procedures, officer survival, domestic violence and others. Each academy participant also receives hands on training in firearms, arrest
control, and building searches.
The Citizen Police Academy is designed to close the gap between the communityand law enforcement by revealing to the class the different aspects of policing not
generally known to the public. Additional information about the academy can be found at http://www.co.rockland.ny.us/Sheriff/academy/academy.htm.
Seats are limited, so anyone interested should contact me either by phone or email, email@example.com, for an application.
On another matter, the South Nyack-Grand View PD is launching a new Community Information Service designed to deliver important and timely information to
residents in our area using the latest technology. This service, created by Nixle LLC, delivers trustworthy and important neighborhood-level public safety and community event notifications by web, e-mail, and cell phone. Nixle is simple, trusted and available at no cost. Residents of South Nyack and Grand View can now take advantage of Nixle. Register now and learn more at www.nixle.com. Then share this new service with friends and neighbors to spread the word! The police department will be using this service for announcements about traffic, crime and other important community information.
