October 20, 2014. Tappan Zee Constructors continues construction of the new bridge’s landings. Work includes drilling holes into the bedrock for the foundation of the landing. In South Nyack, TZC is improving the strength of the soil by using aggregate piers, which are made by using a drill to mix soil and aggregate (i.e., crushed stone) to form a strong base for the new bridge’s abutment and foundation off River Road. The drilling process is less audible than impact pile driving and TZC has implemented noise-reducing measures to further minimize sound levels. The eight-week operation is anticipated to conclude in November.
Work continues on the work trestle near the shoreline, including pile driving, sheet pile driving and cofferdam installation. Residents will hear the construction and the project environmental compliance is taking measurements to ensure the noise remains within allowable levels.
