09/12/14 ~ Mayor’s Update

The 26th Annual South Nyack 10 Mile Run was again a huge success with 450 participants.  A special thanks goes out to South Nyack resident Mike Angarola, of the Rockland Road Runners for coordinating this yearly event.

The Village has completed our 3-week trial of the Brüel and Kjær sound monitoring equipment. Our consultant, Brook Crossan, is now evaluating the data and will present a report to the Board of Trustees at our next meeting on September 23. Mr. Crossan will compare the Brüel and Kjær data to that of the Thruway monitors in order to establish a baseline. He will also analyze differences in the ways the sound levels are reported.  Once the Board members review his report, we can determine if additional monitoring is needed. Our thanks to Brüel and Kjær for their help with this trial.

The bridge team has announced that the sheet pile driving on land for the new bridge abutment has been completed. Sheet pile driving in the water for coffer dams next to the trestle will continue and we remain concerned about the noise levels from this activity. We will continue to work with the Thruway’s environmental compliance team to better understand their compliance and mitigation methods, so we can gain confidence that TZC will stay within their contractual limits.

As always, have a wonderful weekend.

Bonnie Christian
