The Rockland County Main Street and River Front Summit was held this week which I attended. It was organized by the office of the Rockland County Executive Ed Day and discussions concentrated on development and trends of the Hudson Valley, including Main Street development and riverfront revitalization. This information will be useful as South Nyack moves forward with our economic development plans.
I am still pressing the New NY Bridge Team to set a date for a workshop for our community. (They are waiting for feedback from the consultants they sent to Virginia and North Carolina to study pedestrian and bicycle traffic.) The planned workshop will consist of presentations of the various concepts that have been proposed by residents and Task Force members. The concepts will be on display for the public at separate stations with a Thruway representative at each one to receive comments and to answer questions. We want to hold this meeting as soon as the team is ready which we hope will be in July. We also plan to hold a second workshop later in the summer or early fall to enable as many people as possible to attend.
Your Village Board has been actively pressuring the state for better enforcement of noise limits. We believe that there have been numerous violations, but our complaints so far haven’t resulted in improvements. The Task Force and I have sent a letter to the Project Director, Peter Sanderson demanding strict enforcement. We have requested that he meet with us so we can develop a more effective enforcement plan.
We have also had many reports of Tappan Zee Constructor workers parking on village streets which they are not supposed to do. We are keeping pressure on the Thruway to put a halt to this and are exploring other measures that we as a village can take.
Summer starts tomorrow! Enjoy our longest day of the year!
