At their June 10th meeting, the Board of Trustees voted to authorize Sandstone Environmental Associates, Inc. to help us better understand the NYS Thruway noise monitoring systems that have been placed in our village. We need to confirm whether or not these monitors are in fact, serving their designed purpose, which is to give us a true reading on the level of noise being generated and if the noise exceeds the decibels allowed.
Deputy Mayor Alain Leinbach and I attended a meeting with Arlene Miller, Principal Planner, Rockland County Department of Planning, to discuss South Nyack’s participation in the Rockland Riverfront Community Council. The Council’s mission is to protect, enhance and utilize the unique assets of the Hudson River and nearby parks through inter-municipal cooperation between riverfront communities and other appropriate agencies in Rockland County. The Council encourages and promotes the preservation of natural, scenic, historic and cultural resources; provides environmental education; and works to sustain economic development where possible and public access to the river.
Brian Conybeare and the New New York Bridge Team have proposed scheduling a Community Meeting in mid-July. Their consultants still need to look at walkways in other states in order to estimate the number of bicyclists and pedestrians that may be expected in South Nyack. The Community Meeting will be set up like a workshop where residents can see the different suggestions for the Shared Use Path and comment on each concept. I will notify you when a firm date is set.
As always, have a wonderful weekend and happy Father’s Day to all our dads.
